It’s safe money. If you lose it or it’s stolen it’s replaced quickly, usually the same day if it’s American Express. At the end of your trip any leftover travelers checks can be deposited back into your bank account.
Although I know you’ll avoid exchanging money at hotels (usually the worst exchange rate of all) it is comforting to know that you can exchange your travelers’ checks for cash at your hotel (just as you can with cash). This isn’t an option with ATM or credit cards.
